Like any other of Amy Tan's books, this book focuses on the contrast between traditional Chinese culture and the liberal life of first generation Asian-Americans. The book has significant historical references in it that help contribute to the liablity of the book. The book focuses on the relationship of Pearl and her mother, Winnie. The book showed how some Chinese men, during World War II, were very dominate over their wives. The book tended to get lengthy at times referring to irrelevent topics. The book could have just as well without.

It is a very moving novel.

The novel, "The Kitchen God's Wife," has an excellent story which leads the reader to become emotionally or directly involved with the main characters in the novel. The way it is written in first person gives an insight into Chinese married life which many people may not have known. The great miseries which the main characters undergo hit the reader right in the heart, so it is clear to see why I have found this book so enjoyable. Truly an excellent novel.

Firstly by presenting new historical research on the questions under review rather than trotting out tired orthodoxies. Secondly by linking historical inquiry to political activism. It was queried why such a conference was held in February 2006 rather than in the autumn, and the answer was a simple one. To intervene historically in the debates of the year by setting a socialist historical agenda for doing so. The opening plenary heard from Sami Ramidani, an Iraqi exile now lecturing at a British University, from Stan Newens, who had been present at the protests in 1956 and from Nigel Wilmott, the letters editor of the Guardian but here speaking about Hungary. The flavour was one both of historical recall of the events of 1956 and of contemporary political parallels. Indeed during this session news came through via text message that the left-wing MP George Galloway had been detained in a Cairo jail overnight and an emergency protest called at the Egyptian Embassy for later in the day. The next two sessions focused on the key moments of autumn 1956, Hungary and Suez but again with new research examining their wider significance. Mike Haynes looks at the origins of the Hungarian revolt, in terms of workplace politics while Anne Alexander reviews the impact that Suez had on Nasser s reputation within the Arab world and Arab nationalist politics. In the afternoon there was a widening of the focus. One session examined the impact of the events of 1956 on left-wing organisation and in particular the orthodox Communist or Stalinist tradition. Terry Brotherton took a fresh look at the impact of 1956 on the Communist Party of GB, while Toby Abse focused on how the events of that year worked their way through in the largest of the Western European CPs, the Italian. Alan Woodward examined how the crisis of Stalinist politics opened new possibilities for libertarian left-wing ideas. The other focused on the rise of a new left as a result of the crisis of 1956. Paul Blackledge examined the development of the theory of socialist humanism by E.P Thompson and others as an alternative to Stalinism. Neil Davidson examined the ideas of a forgotten left-wing thinker from this period Alisdair Macintyre, while Christian Hogsberg reviewed the influence of an existing Trotskyist theorist, CLR James around the events of 1956 Of course the conference could not hope to cover the huge range of possible historical issues arising from the 50th anniversary of 1956. Tobias Abse is Lecturer in Modern European History at Goldsmiths University of London. He is the author of 'Sovversivi e fascisti a Livorno: lotta politica e sociale (1918-1922), Francoangeli, Milan, 1991, and of numerous articles on 20th. century Italian history and politics, in particular on Italian communism. Terry Brotherstone lectures in history at the University of Aberdeen. He has edited or co-edited, and contributed to: Covenant, Charter and Party: revolt and protest in modern Scottish history (1989); The Trotsky Reappraisal (1992), History, Economic History and the Future of Marxism (1996); Gendering Scottish History: an international approach (1999); and These Fissured Isles: Ireland, Scotland and British history, 1798-1848 (2006). Amongst the subjects he has also written about are: the Declaration of Arbroath, Scottish Common Sense philosophy, Chartism, Red Clydeside, the 1984-85 miners strike, the oral history of the North Sea oil and gas industry, and Marxism and cultural history. From the mid-1980s until the mid-1990s he was a regular arts correspondent for the weekly Workers Press Neil Davidson is the Secretary of the Edinburgh Central Branch of the Public and Commercial Services Union, an activist in the Socialist Workers Party and a Public Interest Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde. He is the author of The Origins of Scottish Nationhood (2000) and Discovering the Scottish Revolution, 1692-1746 (2003) for which he was awarded the Isaac and Tamara Deutscher Memorial Prize. Keith Flett is the convenor of the socialist history seminar at the Institute of Historical Research in central London. He is the author of numerous letters and articles and has recently published Chartism After 1848. He is the chair of Haringey Trades Union Council and an activist in the IT professionals union Connect. Mike Haynes has written widely on patterns of social and economic change. He is currently researching the changing patterns of accumulation and labour relations in the former Soviet bloc with a special focus on continuities and discontinuities Christian Hogsbjerg is undertaking doctoral research into the late Trinidadian intellectual CLR James (1901-1989) and his relationship to British society, and have had articles on James published in Socialist History, Revolutionary History and International Socialism journal. Stan Newens - Labour MP for Epping 1964-70; Labour & Co-operative MP for Harlow 1974-83; Labour & Co-operative MEP for London Central 1984-99; author of various articles, pamphlets and books on historical and political subjects. Methylenediphenyl diisocyanate[MDI] and toluene diisocyanate [TDI] are chemicals produced at a total rate of about four million tonnes per annum. They are reactive intermediates employed in the production of polyurethanes and other polymers which are used in a wide diversity of applications involving many thousands of workers worldwide.

The safe handling of MDI and TDI requires close attention to working practices in their transportation, storage, use and disposal. This book focuses on handling aspects, but also includes reviews of medical and environmental issues. There is detailed information on the properties, occupational and release limits and nomenclature of MDI and TDI, and on their analysis.

About the Author
Stephen P. Robbins received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. He previously worked for Shell Oil Company and Reynolds Metals Company and has taught at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Concordia University in Montreal, the University of Baltimore, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and San Diego State University. He is currently professor emeritus in management at San Diego State. Dr. Robbins s research interests have focused on conflict, power, and politics in organizations, behavioral decision making, and the development of effective interpersonal skills. His articles on these and other topics have appeared in such journals as "Business Horizons," "California Management Review," "Business and Economic Perspectives, International Management, " "Management Review, Canadian Personnel and Industrial Relations," and "The Journal of Management Education." Dr. Robbins is the world s best-selling textbook author in the areas of management and organizational behavior. His books have sold more than 7 million copies and have been translated into 20 languages. His books are currently used at more than 1,500 U.S. colleges and universities, as well as hundreds of schools throughout Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Robbins also participates in masters track competition. Since turning 50 in 1993, he s won 23 national championships and 14 world titles. He was inducted into the U.S. Masters Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2005. Mary Coulter (Ph.D., University of Arkansas) held different jobs including high school teacher, legal assistant, and city government program planner before completing her graduate work. She has taught at Drury University, the University of Arkansas, Trinity University, and Missouri State University. She is currently professor emeritus of management at Missouri State University. In addition to "Fundamentals of Management, " Dr. Coulter has published other books with Pearson including "Management" (with Stephen P. Robbins), "Strategic Management in Action, "and" Entrepreneurship in Action." David A. Decenzo (Ph.D., West Virginia University) is president of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. He has been at Coastal since 2002 when he took over leadership of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business. As president, Dr. DeCenzo has implemented a comprehensive strategic planning process, ensured fiscal accountability through policy and practice, and promoted assessment and transparency throughout the University. Before joining the Coastal faculty in 2002, he served as director of partnership development in the College of Business and Economics at Towson University in Maryland. He is an experienced industry consultant, corporate trainer, public speaker, and board member. Dr. DeCenzo is the author of numerous textbooks that are used widely at colleges and universities throughout the United States and the world. Weak effort that should be left in the past.

As a graduate textbook, this volume lacks the necessary depth to challenge students. Worse yet, this book may only be downloaded onto two devices, rendering it much less useful in the publisher's attempt to force students to purchase or rent multiple copies. I'm all for purchasing something that's worth the price, but once I purchase that item, I should be allowed to do with it as I please on my own devices, no matter how many I have registered. Robbins, et. al. need to convince their publisher to join us in the 21st century in their approach to business.

I found this textbook to be extremely essential to passing my Management course. Not only is it informative but I found it to be inspirational and uplifting. Whether you are taking a course in Management or not, this text helps guides you to be a greater leader with the skills to manage yourself and others. Plus it is easy to read with pictures and large font.

Loose leaf text with no binder

Arrived with no missing pages but I wish it had a binder with it. It's definitely a less expensive alternative to a traditional text book. I also liked that I could throw a chapter in a folder and take it with me to work or on the train for reading without lugging a large text book.

I found the test associated with the text publisher are not as closely linked as they could have been. There is a lot of tiring material in here and it gets redundant and cumbersome as you read on.

This 19th-century classic, read by Andrew Sachs, is a tale of betrayal, gold, and love, encased in the elegant symmetrical structure so popular in traditional English fiction, featuring Marner, the weaver, who is framed for theft by his best friend and becomes a recluse, focusing his strong affections only on the store of golden coins he receives in payment for his work. As usual, Chivers has produced an excellent audio presentation of a literary masterpiece. Alas, in this day and age fewer and fewer readers not enrolled in literature classes actually read the works of what are frequently referred to as "dead white males" even if, as in this case, they were actually written by a woman. For this reason, this title is recommended for all academic but only larger public libraries.

A book for all times, but not for all readers

Question: How can you ensure that a person will hate a book? Answer: Make her read it for 7th grade English class, make sure that the language is old-fashioned, and above all, make sure that the ideas and concepts are over her head. If that's what happened to you, and that's why you have an aversion to Silas Marner, and you are now over 30, pick it up again. Read it twice. Silas Marner is one of the greatest novels in the English language.
Yes, it starts out sad, as our pathetic hero looses both his trust in humanity and his faith in God. But the power of love replaces his lust for money, and wins out in the end. Meanwhile, morally poor but financially rich, high-living Godfrey Cass provides a counterpoint to simple Silas. At the end there's a surprise when the fate of Godfrey's evil brother is revealed.
When you're all done, before you file Silas Marner on the shelf, go back and read the paragraph about Silas' thoughts when he discovers that his hordes of coins are missing. If you have ever felt sudden extreme loss, you will recognize the stages of despair from disbelief to acceptance "like a man falling into dark water." Which is why this book is not suitable for children, and is most appreciated by those who have undergone their own moral redemption.
Silas has been the inspiration for many other characters, including Dicken's Scrooge. He has been portrayed in movies, including "A Simple Twist of Fate" starring Steve Martin. But none is as good as the original. If you haven't read it since junior high, try it again. Silas Marner is an excellent book. There's a gem of human understanding in every chapter.

A Tale of the Redeeming Power of Love

Silas Marner is an excellent classic novel set in early Nineteenth Century England. In this story, George Eliot (pen name for Mary Ann Evans) depicts a man named Silas Marner, a weaver by trade. He lives happily in his home town of Lantern Yard, until his best friend William Dane betrays him by setting him up as a thief. William then marries Silas' fiancée, and Silas is shunned from the town. He eventually settles in a very small cottage in Raveloe, where he spends his days making cloth and other materials for the townspeople. Due to his now secretive and reclusive ways, the people of Raveloe never really come to know Silas, and he lives in solitude, having turned away from his former faith and happiness.
But one winter's night, a small orphan girl comes to his house, and everything changes. Silas cares for the child (with the help of his neighbor, Mrs. Winthrop, whose family soon befriends him), and his heart begins to soften.
This is a very good representation of the redeeming power of love, and the consequences of a person's actions. For people who enjoy classic literature, this is definitely a must-read.

Pure gold

If you have a heart, the story of Silas Marner will warm it. You are better coming to it fresh, without knowing anything of the simple yet solid plot, so I will say nothing of it. I will just urge you to read this wonderful book. Eliot writes beautifully and from page one, you realize you are in the hands of a true artist. This is a very human, very English story of simple people living through those very basic emotions that make the world turn and give the universe meaning.

This really will work!

I have done hypnotic regression with a certified Life Between Life Therapist twice. It was expensive but worth it. It was a life changing experience. I read through the hypnotic suggestions scripts in this book and found that they work even just reading the script with the intention of experiencing self hypnosis. I would not have recognized the authenticity of the experience however, had I not had previous experience with past life regression. This is not like watching a movie of your past life, you get impressions and pictures in your mind in the same way you read a book and imagine from the worded descriptions -what the author is trying to communicate. This would allow you to collect memories of many past lives and with time perhaps improve your ability to achieve clearer sharper identification of what you are experiencing.

It seemed like a rather cumbersome task

I had intentions to do this regression on myself, but due to the logistics I never got around to it. The instructions are to record yourself reading the script (being the facilitator). Go into the regression while recording yourself (being the client) and at the same time, be able to stop the facilitator's voice when necessary so the client has plenty of time to reveal what is being seen. It seemed like a rather cumbersome task, so I never completed it. However, due to this book and "My Past Lives and Life Plan" by the same author definitely inspired me. I am currently taking classes to become NPL certified. Thanks Dr. Schwimmer!
