Excellent information on the subject matter. A significant improvement on other well known books. Many high quality color pictures. Thoughtful, durable bench top reference format. I believe this is a long term standard, and not likely to become obsolete.

Well written and illustrated guide to checkering and everything that contributes to a successful project. The author takes the reader from selection of tools, work setup/layout, identifying the characteristics of the wood, checkering techniques; in short, everything you need to know or consider for a checkering project. Excellent and well worth the price! Thank you Mr. Schafer for sharing your hard work and expertise.

This is by far the best book I've seen or read on the principals from A -Z of gunstock checkering!! It is a no non sense step by step approach to this meticulous detail orientated craft. If you follow all the steps that Joel so carefully articulates you should be well on your way, providing you put forth the effort and practice. This is a book well worth the money spent!!
